The Keifuku Randen operates on two lines in the western area of Kyoto.
For visitors to the city it’s an alternative way to access the popular Arishiyama Bamboo Forest and during spring see the Cherry Blossoms in bloom. For residents it provides important connections for work and school and with a short section of street running, the Randen is the closest you’ll get to a tram ride in modern day Kyoto.
In the middle of the system, Katabiranotsuji Station is the junction where the lines converge and trains meet, pausing briefly to exchange passengers, before heading out again opposite directions.
The Randen is a must for rail fans visiting Kyoto, a ride on the colorful trains threading their way through the suburbs is a pleasant way to take in more of this historical city.
